Hi!! I’m Emer and welcome to my book blog.
Ever since I can remember I have been obsessed by books. I just love everything about them… from the stories within them to the way they smell. I love brand new shiny books and I love old tattered ones too. My favourite thing to do (apart from reading obvs) is to spend hours trawling through second hand book stores and stalls. Isn’t there something magical about reading a copy of a book that someone else has? I like to think that books have memory and that each time we read a book not only do we take in the story contained within that book’s pages but we also impart a little bit of ourselves…I know it’s silly… But sometimes being silly is the best part of living.
I read all sorts of genres, anything from Young Adult to award winning literary fiction. I am very much a mood reader and never make plans as to what book I intend to read next! I just go wherever my heart directs me so some weeks it will be romantic comedies, the next magical realism and after that it could be science fiction or fantasy closely followed by a serious drama! And then I like to mix things up with science non-fiction and memoirs. I just don’t really read horrors or crime thrillers… I tend to lose myself to the stories I am reading and books that scare me have a nasty habit of haunting my dreams so I’ve learned that it is best for me to steer clear!
I love open endings, antiheroes & books that rip my heart to shreds! Can’t beat a good book cry right???
If I have to choose between character or plot I choose character driven novels every time. I abhor spoilers; I like to know very little about a book before I read it!! Greek mythology is my jam! Some of the first books I borrowed from my library as a little kid were based on Greek myths & the passion hasn’t left me all these years later. Books about dogs are my absolute weakness; never met a dog I didn’t like. Nancy Drew was my childhood hero…still kinda is!! And I believe wholeheartedly that no one is ever too old to read YA! I think I enjoy YA books even more now than when I was a teenager oops!!
All time fav authors and books include Jane Austen, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Lindsey Kelk, Dorothy Whipple, Colm Tóibín, Max Porter, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Half of a Yellow Sun, The Odyssey, The Shadow of the Wind, Circe, Lanny, The Catcher in the Rye, Metamorphoses, A Line Made by Walking, Grief is the Thing with Feathers, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Fault in Our Stars, The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, The Binding, Strange the Dreamer…
I could go on…
