The Blogger Recognition Award (I and II)

I was nominated recently by two people for The Blogger Recognition Award.

Firstly I was nominated by Meghan @Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations and Reviews. Thank you so much Meghan, it’s so lovely to get this recognition especially when I have only been blogging since June. If you are not following Meghan already then you really need to follow her right this second because she is one of the nicest bloggers out there and always posts such great content.

And then I was also nominated by the lovely Jena @Jena R Collins, The Mother Cover Lover. Jena has one of the most beautiful looking blogs out there; her blog is filled with some really great posts and she’s super lovely too so everyone should give her a follow. Thank you Jena!

The Rules

  1. Thank the blogger/s who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  5. Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  6. Comment (or pingback) on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

How A Little Haze Book Blog came to be

I guess it all goes back to taking that first step on Goodreads a number of years ago to write my very first review. That book was Asking For It by Louise O’Neill. I felt it was such an important read and I really wanted people to know that so I wrote a short review about the book and how much the topic of rape culture (that the book explores) needed to be discussed.

And from there I started writing more reviews on Goodreads but I always had the itch to have a little corner of the internet that was unique to me. And that is where the desire to create a blog came from.

For ages I was incredibly nervous and really did not think that what I had to say was that important but this June I finally just took a deep breath and created my blog.

It is still very much a work in progress but I am really loving it so much.

As for the name ‘A Little Haze’. That moniker came to me a number of years ago now. It stems from the fact that I live with a chronic illness and frequently feel like I am living in a haze of sickness, pain and medication. So calling my blog, instagram, twitter…i.e everywhere I am on the internet A Little Haze feels like I am taking agency over my illness.

Advice for new bloggers

I am not sure that I am that qualified to give advice just yet but what I think is important is to just be yourself. Always blog about what you want to blog about. Don’t let yourself be influenced by hype and by what makes other people happy. As long as blogging is fun and enjoyable for you then there are no hard and fast rules.

And if you are new and just starting out like I really am myself, then just start chatting and commenting on other people’s blog posts. The blogosphere is a community and communities only work when there is communication and chat; so just take that deep breath and reach out.

  1. Hey! Thank you for the tag! That was super nice of you!

Ah. The name of your blog makes sense now. I’m sorry to hear you deal with chronic illness, especially as the internet can make these conditions invisible. Bodies are damned inconvenient sometimes.

    1. Aw… Thank you for such sweet words! ❀️ I’m sorry that you have to go through your chronic illness, but I love how you’ve wielded it in your name. I whole heartily agree with your advice. I have trouble still reaching out afraid to meet others, but blogging is just that. I’m delighted I found your blog and hit the follow button a while ago. It has been a happy ping in my email box with every thoughtful post. Much love!πŸ’—

  3. Ah so that’s what the name of your blog is all about – makes a lot of sense.
Your advice is right on the mark – if you don’t enjoy it then it will just become a pain and eventually you’ll stop wanting to post….

      1. You do have the word book in though. I thought my blog name was pretty evident and then last week someone said they thought it was the name of a someone who made reservations – a booker of events. How odd.

      2. Well I thought let’s call a spade a spade and not confuse anyone any more than they probably already are! I can’t believe that someone thought that that’s what the Booker was implying… Life is just so wonderfully funny sometimes :))

    1. Thanks so much for tagging me Meghan, I really appreciate it. I’m glad you think my advice is sound! As such a new (though admittedly crazily addicted!) blogger I wasn’t sure if I had any wise words to impart.
And yeah having a chronic illness sucks but it’s also part of who I am. And my love of reading (and talking about reading on the Internet) really helps getting me through some days :)))

  7. Thank you so much for tagging me! I’m so sorry to hear you have to deal with chronic illness – I empathise so much as I also deal with chronic pain and I completely understand what you mean by the haze and fog that comes from taking so many medications. It’s extremely difficult and if you ever need to talk about any of it I’m here! πŸ’›
