Top Ten Tuesday – Books On My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is Top Ten Books On My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading!

September 10th: Books On My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading

Oooh what an interesting topic for this week’s TTT! I am definitely guilty of avoiding some books on my TBR.

The following are books that are all sequels that I am avoiding because I have either really loved the first book in the series and am terrified that the sequel will be a let down,

OR

are books that I have heard on the grapevine that pale in comparison to book one.

(1) Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Sequel to Strange the Dreamer.

(2) Wildcard by Marie Lu

Sequel to Warcross

(3) Shadowsong by S. Jae-Jones

Sequel to Wintersong

(4) Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

Sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird

The next books in the list are books I really want to read but am avoiding because I have completely forgotten what happened in the first books!!! And I just don’t feel like rereading them at the minute.

(5) Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray

Second book in the Firebird series

(6) Where She Went by Gayle Forman

Sequel to If I Stay

(7) More Than We Can Tell by Bridget Kemmerer

Companion novel to Letters to the Lost

And these last three novels are all timeless classics that just seem a little bit too involving due to their length.

(8) Ulysses by James Joyce

(9) War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

(10) The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien

And that’s my TTT for this week! Let me know what you think of my choices in the comments below and feel free to link to your TTT so I can check it out.

    1. Thanks Amanda!!! Omg I know!!! I’ve looked through LoTR a few times in the library and it looks hella confusing in spots. It might be one I’ll never get to but at least the films (original trilogy) are awesome!!! :))))))

  1. ooohhh this is such an interesting topic. wildcard is a hard book to pick up after how amazing warcross turned out. and the mixed reviews don’t help. i really enjoyed wildcard but all my friends were super disappointed by it so 😔 tough call

if you ever read ‘go set a watchman’ i’d love to hear your thoughts. i read to kill a mockingbird back in highschool and i felt like the ending was perfect the way it was and im really hesitant to distort the memory i have of it

the lord of the rings is SO INTIMIDATING. i’ve wanted to pick it up multiple times but i just can’t seem to push myself into actually starting it. great post!!

    1. I have bought Wildcard so I know someday I will pick it up because it’s Marie Lu!!! I HAVE to read all of her books lol!!! And omg I’m so the same with Mockingbird, to me it was such a perfect book that I think returning to those characters again will mar the feelings I had. Plus there’s all the furore about did they take advantage of an elderly lady and publish something she didn’t truly intend to be published… I just have so many mixed emotions about it. As for Lotr I have no clue if I’ll ever read it…I love the films though (not that that’s the same at all lol!!!) :)))))))

    1. I’ve heard that about LOTR alright. And that there are some very odd dream sequences!! As I’m not the greatest lover of fantasy I don’t know if I’ll ever read the books…I did love the films though! Thanks Lydia. I’ll check out your TTT now :)))

  2. Wonderful TTT, Emer! I have the same thoughts about so many of these – especially Muse of Nightmares! I’m so worried I won’t love it as much as Strange! And I’ve heard some pretty bad things about Go Set A Watchman, so I’ve been avoiding that big time (despite getting it the minute it came out bahaha)! War and Peace is another one that’s been on my shelf an aaaage but I keep looking at how freaking GINORMOUS it is and at the teeny tiny text (and I guess that’s saying something for someone who likes small text LOL) inside it and plopping it back on my shelf again 😂One day…

    1. HAHAHA you and your small text!!! I think war and peace is one that has to be read on an eReader for me. Need to max out that font size lol!!!! And omg the fear with muse of nightmares is SO FREAKING REAL!!!!!!!!!!!! And yeah… Go set a watchman just seems to be dodgy from so many peoples reviews of it… So I don’t know if I truly will ever read that!! Thanks Dini!!! I’ll be popping over to your TTT in a few to compare :))))

  3. Ahh, I hope you do enjoy Muse of Nightmares when you get to it, I really loved it! I definitely should have included The Lord of the Rings series on my TTT, too! I was gifted a copy a few years ago but it just seems so intimidating lol! Great list. 🙂

  4. Go Set a Watchman literally broke my heart, and not in a good way. I remember finishing it and just sitting on the couch sobbing while my mom asked me how she could make it better, and there’s just no way? My whole To Kill a Mockingbird experience of love was ruined? Like, I hyped this book so much, and then I literally threw it away because I didn’t want a single other person to be destroyed like that. Which, yes, dramatic, butttttttt it kind of deserved it.

      1. Normally, I wouldn’t be happy about that, but seriously, they should have respected Lee’s wishes and kept it to themselves. I hope some of these others ones work out for you, though!

  5. Real talk, I’m excited to see someone else who hasn’t read the sequel to Warcross yet. I’ve been avoiding it as well! I have no real reason to be avoiding it, I just have and I always feel like I’m the odd girl out when it comes down to it?? Haha!
