from Sara’s original post

Song one: I Forgot That You Existed | A BOOK FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD THAT YOU DON’T REMEMBER ANYTHING ABOUT

The Secret Garden! I know I read it. I know I enjoyed it…but wow I cannot remember anything about it!!!

Song two: Cruel Summer | THE WORST BOOK YOU’VE READ THIS SUMMER

The Friend Zone… Ughh… Read it in June and I am still frustrated by how offensive the ending was!

Song three: Lover | A BOOKISH RELATIONSHIP THAT’S PERFECT EXACTLY THE WAY IT IS

OMG I only just read this but the relationship between Maren and Ursa in Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s upcoming novel The Mercies is spectacularly written.

Song four: The Man | A BOOK WITH A BADASS FEMALE MAIN CHARACTER

Ifemelu from Americanah! Gosh I love her and how in your face she is. She is amazingly unapologetic in the right sense of the word.

Song five: The Archer | A BOOK WITH GREAT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

The Private Joys of Nnenna Maloney has spectacular character development. I honestly adore this book and can’t recommend it more highly.

Song six: I Think He Knows | YOUR FICTIONAL CRUSH

Hi Darcy….

Song seven: Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince | A BOOK SET IN HIGH SCHOOL

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Words cannot express how much I love this whole series of books. And the Netflix film… I just *happy sigh*

Song eight: Paper Rings | A BOOK WITH A HAPPY ENDING

How about a book series with a happy ending??? Lindsey Kelk’s I Heart series ended this summer with I Heart Hawaii and it was perfection.

Song nine: Cornelia Street | A SETTING YOU’LL NEVER FORGET

I really, really liked the world development of A Court of Thorns and Roses… which is hilarious because I had massive issues with it later on in book 2… But I always fondly remember the creation of Tamlin’s court in the first book.

Song ten: Death by a Thousand Cuts | A BOOK THAT BROKE YOUR HEART

The Fault in Our Stars…

*sobs*

Song eleven: London Boy | A SETTING THAT PLAYS A BIG ROLE IN THE STORY

The Odyssey.

Odysseus’ journey was massively influenced by the environments that he encountered.

Song twelve: Soon You’ll Get Better | A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

I cry A LOT when I read books but I think Never Let Me Go had me both sobbing and also enraptured by its beautiful prose.

Song thirteen: False God | A BOOK WITH A WELL-WRITTEN SEXY SCENE

I can’t think of any in particular but an incredibly sex-positive YA I read was Serious Moonlight. It isn’t salacious or unnecessarily graphic but instead writes about teenage sex in a really authentic and realistic fashion.

Song fourteen: You Need To Calm Down | A BOOK FEATURING AN LGBTQ+ ROMANCE

Everything Leads To You… Gosh I love this book. It’s unbelievably cute!

Song fifteen: Afterglow | A GREAT SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE

Messy Wonderful Us… I mean it’s probably more friends to lovers but it’s all I can think of right now lol!

Song sixteen: Me! | YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE BOOK

My beloved Catcher.

I tag…

  1. I remember reading The Secret Garden as a kid and being totally creeped out? There was something about the garden that scared me–I’ve been a chicken all my life apparently 😂So many YA contemporaries I want to read on your list. Love it! 😍
