OMG This Song Book Tag

So I was searching for some book tags to do and I came across this one on BookTube. It was originally created for YouTube by Kate’s Book Date but I think it works quite nicely as a blog post too.

Questions:

1. MY JAM – a song you MUST listen to every time it comes on, no matter how old or how many times you’ve listened to it / a book you’ll never get sick of

Hello Santana featuring Rob Thomas… SMOOTH IS JUST AHHHHH!!! I can’t dance, two left feet plus a prosthetic hip BUT WHEN THIS SONG COME ON I SUDDENLY THINK I AM A SALSA QUEEN…. I have no idea if you can dance salsa to this but it does not matter because I can’t salsa anyway!!!! Do yourselves a favour and hit play on this YouTube link.

As for the book well it’s gotta be Pride and Prejudice hasn’t it!!!! It’s the book I have reread the most as an adult and I just swoon EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

2. THROWBACK – a song that reminds you of the cringiest time of your life / a book that also reminds you of this time (or just something you wouldn’t like as much if you picked it up for the first time now)

OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM ADMITTING THIS BUT I LOVED BOYZONE MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND I PLAYED WORDS INCESSANTLY … now I will go away and hide my shame…..

BUT NOT BEFORE I PLAY THE YOUTUBE VIDEO AND GET ALL NOSTALGIC FOR MY TEENAGE SELF!!!

There’s indoor rain in the video…. God I loved the 90s….

AND THE BOOK!!!

How about a whole series??? SWEET VALLEY HIGH BOOKS WERE LIKE CRACK TO ME!!!!!!!!! I would probably die of second hand embarrassment if I read one now but 12 year old me felt VERY strongly about Elizabeth and Jessica… especially their room decorations. I remember one of them had a brown coloured room because it was supposed to be like rich chocolate and I thought that sounded like the best thing ever….. Adult me is quite attached to the brightness of her magnolia walls now!!!!

3. REPLAY – a recent song you have on repeat right now / a recent favourite book

I LOVE SAM SMITH WITH ALL MY HEART AND I ADORE THIS VIDEO AND HOW THEY ARE LIVING THEIR BEST LIFE WITH THE AMAZING DANCE MOVES. I have had had this song on almost constant repeat since I first heard it.

And I recently read Jessie Burton’s The Confession and wow do I adore it. It’s all about giving women agency over the narrative of their lives… I JUST LOVE IT!!!

4. GETS ME – this song IS ME / this book is me in book form

Feel I’m on the verge of some great truth
Where I’m finally in my place
But I’m fumbling still full proof
And it’s cluttering my space
Casting shadows on my face

Though I have the strength to move a hill
I can hardly leave my room
So I sit perfectly still
And I’ll listen for a tune
While my mind is on the moon

And If I stumble, and if I stall
And if I slip now, and if I should fall
And if I can’t be, all that I could be
Will you? Will you wait for me?

Cause everywhere I seem to be
I am only passing through
I dream these days are about the sea
I always wake up feeling blue
Wishing I could dream of you

So if I stumble, and If I fall
And if I slip now, and loose it all
And if I can’t be, all that I could be
Will you? Will you wait for me?

Wait by Alexi Murdoch

I love the lyrics of Wait by Alexi Murdoch so much. It’s definitely a song that connects with me on a deeper level than most others.

As for the book…

There’s so much of me in Please Read This Leaflet carefully by Karen Havelin, and there’s a lot of teenage me in The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger but I think maybe Sara Baume’s A Line Made By Walking might be the closest reveal of my soul’s desires.

5. WUT – weird but I like it? / a unique book that stuck out to you for whatever reason

Ladies and Gentlemen I give to you Do You Realise by The Flaming Lips. God I love this song so much.

And probably the strangest book with regards to narrative structure that I really like is Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi.

6. LET’S GO – best pump up song (for workouts or just life) / a book that inspired you

HAIL TO QUEEN ARETHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. CHILL – fav chill, relaxing song / a book you’d curl up with and read on a rainy day

Well it’s me so this list has to have AT LEAST one John Mayer song. I mean when I’m just chilling I put on my John Mayer playlist and listen to ALL of his back catalogue because like any good fangirl I own all of his albums and a bunch of live recordings too… But let’s go with Gravity for this tag.

And there’s nothing more relaxing than reading something by the awesomeness that is Becky Chambers.

8. ADDICTING – guilty pleasure song (one that’s catchy and addicting but not a whole lot of substance) / guilty pleasure/trashy/fast/light read

I disagree with the idea of something being a guilty pleasure or not a whole lot of substance… But I know that my love for Lionel Richie’s Hello is based on how cheesy it is….

And similarly I don’t believe in guilty pleasure reads BUT J.L.A’s LUX SERIES IS SUITABLY TRASHY FOR THIS PROMPT

9. NOSTALGIA – throwback you look back on fondly / a book you read forever ago that you look back on fondly or reminds you of a happy childhood time

Deep Blue Something’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s just brings back memories of some good days…

And I didn’t read Twilight as a child but it really brings back some good memories from when I was at Uni.

And finally I tag:
