This Blogmas post is a review of a gorgeously bound collection of YA seasonal short stories.
Blurb from Goodreads
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me …
This beautiful collection features twelve gorgeously romantic stories set during the festive period, by some of the most talented and exciting YA authors writing today.
The stories are filled with the magic of first love and the magic of the holidays.
As with all collections of this sort some stories I preferred more than others:-
“Midnights” by Rainbow Rowell
SO FREAKING CUTE!!!! Why can’t her books be like this story?????
*shudders at the memory of the abomination that is Fangirl*
Okay so abomination is probably a tad harsh but still…. Oh well…. *sigh*
4.5 stars maybe??
“The Lady and the Fox” by Kelly Link
Weird and wonderful; I still don’t quite know what happened but I know I liked it!
4 or 3.5 stars
“Angels in the Snow” by Matt de la Peña
This had a melancholic and bittersweet vibe to it. Liked it a lot.3.5 to 4 stars
“Polaris is Where You’ll Find Me” by Jenny Han
Got bored, confused… pretty much lost the will to live….
1 star. Less if I could.
“It’s a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown” by Stephanie Perkins
Sheer Christmas perfection
(And yet ‘Lola and The Boy Next Door’ is one of my most loathed contemporary YA reads!!! Guess authors can happily still surprise us)
“Your Temporary Santa” by David Leviathan
Adorable with moments of sadness and joy
“Krampuslauf” by Holly Black
1 or 2 stars depending on my mood
“What The Hell Have You Done Sophie Roth?” by Gayle Forman
A cute Hanukkah themed story that I really enjoyed.
Plus the whole apple pie and cheese thing sounds AMAZING!!!!!!! Before you think that it’s weird just remember that a good strong cheese and apple are a natural pairing; a ploughman’s lunch frequently combines the bread, cheese and pickles with apples!!!
3 to 4 stars
“Beer Buckets and Baby Jesus” by Myra McEntire
Honestly, I was just bored.
Did I care???
That would be a no….
One star and move swiftly on!
“Welcome to Christmas, CA” by Kiersten White
Somewhere between cute and meh…
The premise was great. Something lacked for me in the execution
2 stars; maybe 1 star if I’m feeling Scrooge-like!!!
“Star of Bethlehem” by Ally Carter
Random!! But intriguing.
“The Girl Who Woke the Dreamer” by Laini Taylor
What an un-Christmassy ending!! Quirky weird story but come on!!! I wanted to end with tinsel and sparkle!
(Would have been 3 if Santa had made an appearance #JustSaying)
So overall I think I’ll say three stars
