BLOGMAS DAY 10: Top Ten Tuesday 10th Dec 2019 – Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is A Freebie!

For this week’s freebie I decided to incorporate this TTT into my Blogmas posts and make a music playlist of the best Christmassy songs to read to!!

(1) Sam Smith – ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’

I adore Sam Smith. Their voice is just one I could listen to forever and this version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is always on rotation on my stereo over the festive period.

(2) Tom Chaplin – ‘Midnight Mass’

Tom Chaplin might be best known as the lead singer in the band Keane but back in 2017 he released a solo album of purely Christmas songs entitled ‘Twelve Tales of Christmas’ and I utterly adore it. For about six weeks of the year I listen incessantly to it and every January (well January of 2018 and 2019) I always feel sad when it comes time to stop listening to it.

Midnight Mass is my favourite track on the album but really the whole thing is flawless and I highly recommend that everyone listen to it in its entirety.

(3) Christina Perri – ‘Something About December’

I love this song so much because it really has that bittersweet quality of Christmas time.

(4) Passenger and Ed Sheeran – ‘Snowflakes’

This is such an awesome wintry acoustic duet! Love Passenger and love Ed!

(5) Ryan Sheridan – ‘Walking in the Air’

This version of Walking in the Air is just the shizz!

(6) John Williams (composer) – ‘Somewhere in My Memory’

This is from one of the all time great Christmas films: Home Alone. And this piece makes me feel all the Christmassy feels.

(7) Pentatonix – ‘Mary Did You Know?’

I utterly adore this vocal arrangement of Mary Did You Know? and it has become a firm favourite in recent years.

(8) Tommy Flemming – ‘Christmas 1915’

This song you guys…

It is the most emotional Christmas song I think.

It’s about the Christmas truce on the Western Front in WWI…

and the lyrics…

the melody…

Just listen to it.

(9) Joni Mitchell – ‘River’

I adore Joni Mitchell and this Christmassy folk song is one of my all time favourites. It’s melody makes for the perfect music to read to.

(10) The Pogues – ‘Fairytale of New York’

And no list of Christmas music would be complete without this modern classic.

  1. Joni Mitchell’s River just makes me cry. It’s so good. And there are so many on this list I haven’t heard of. I’m looking them all up! 🙂

  2. OMG GAME OVER! When Sam Smith sings that song I can listen to it FOREVER and when this season comes around, the Pentatonix Christmas album is one of the first things that I listen to and play endlessly on repeat! Winning so hard with this list, Emer! 😍 I’m gonna go listen to Sam Smith now 🤣
