This is a Blogmas post that reviews one of the cosiest Christmas reads I have had the pleasure to read…
Blurb from Goodreads
Skylar Tempest has never understood Alec Hunter’s appeal. So what if he’s a world-renowned historian? He’s also cynical, aloof and determined to think the worst of her. So when a twist of fate finds her spending the lead-up to Christmas with Alec and his family, she’s not expecting the season to be either merry or bright.
Alec has learned the hard way not to trust beautiful women—and Skylar is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. But as he watches her throw herself into his family’s festive chaos, Alec realises there is far more to this blonde bombshell than meets the eye.
With Christmas around the corner, Alec and Skylar return to Puffin Island, a tentative bond forged between them. Neither intends to fall in love but as the nights become darker, and the fire between them grows hotter, could this be the chance for Alec and Skylar to find their own happy ending?
GAAAAAAAHHH this book.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!
*grins like a Cheshire cat*
It was fun, it was flirty, it was romantic, it was very Christmassy, it was a WHOLE lot of hot and bothered at times and it made me all sorts of giggly!
Very good giggly!!
So the two lead characters have that quintessential “we say we hate each other but secretly are crazy hot for each other” thing going on and it was such fun! They really sparked off each other.
And okay, so I guess this probably won’t ever win awards for being the most original story or for surprising plot twists/developments but that is not the point of this book.
This book makes you happy!!!!!!
Well it made me happy anyway! And it cheered me up from a funky mood (i.e. tired and exhausted from a lot of family festive kiddie-laden pandemonium!) and it brought a whole lot of spark and sizzle back to my Christmas.
And what is more… it is a proper Christmas themed book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*whoops and hollers*
Not like so many books that just have a chapter or two that briefly mention the festive season in passing.
This book came complete with a snowy English cottage, a quirky and loving extended family celebrating the festivities, copious amounts of mulled wine and mince pies, blazing log fires, family parlour games and everything else you could want from a perfect family Christmas. The setting in the English countryside was truly idyllic…with plenty of spice and swoon!
For the second half of the book the action moved back to Puffin Island, Maine.
This provided a wonderfully romantic backdrop for the story: snow storms howling outside while staying warm inside, lots of peace & tranquillity. And the Christmassy theme was kept well and truly alive too with the main characters cutting down a Christmas tree in the forest, hand-making Christmas decorations…
‘Christmas Ever After’ is the third book in the Puffin Island series by Sarah Morgan. I have also read the first two (‘First Time in Forever’ and ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’) and while they were moderately diverting they really weren’t a patch on this one.
Each book in the series focuses on a different couple who live on (or spend a lot of time on) Puffin Island; this is by far my favourite book of the series and my favourite couple. It could definitely be read as a stand alone novel as any backstory for the supporting characters is quickly explained and easily understood which I found particularly helpful when reading this as I had loooooong since forgotten the events of book one and two!!!
I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who wants to read something fun, flirty and a little bit steamy over the cold Christmas holidays.
Four sizzling stars
