‘I Heart Christmas’ by Lindsey Kelk – Book Review

This is the sixth book in author Lindsey Kelk’s fantastic I Heart series. I Heart Christmas continues the story of Angela and her friends that was started with I Heart New York although it is possible to read this as a standalone…but I would not recommend it. These books are best enjoyed in the correct series order.

Blurb from Goodreads

Angela’s planning her very own fairytale of New York…

  • Enormous Christmas tree
  • Eggnog
  • Eccentric British traditions
  • Gorgeous man

But Santa’s throwing her a few curveballs – new job (as if it’s not mental enough already), new baby-craze from her best friend Jenny, and Alex determined they should grow up and settle down. Once friends start turning up uninvited on her doorstep (and leading her astray), can Angela really have a merry little Christmas? So much for happy holidays – something’s got to give…

My Review

Oh Lindsey Kelk…how I heart her books.

She just writes such fun stories with leading characters that pop off the page at you making you instantly wish they were your besties in real life.

I’ve read all her back catalogue at this stage; I adore her A Girl series and have enjoyed all her standalone novels especially Always The Bridesmaid.

However, her I Heart series have been a little more hit and miss…New York (I heart #1) was a fabulous opener and Hollywood (#2) a strong sequel…but Paris (#3) and Vegas (#4) I was less of a fan of. But with (#5) London and this (#6) Christmas themed sixth book she is back on top form again.

Okay so you know the basic outline of the plot already but that really doesn’t matter because it’s so well written…

Angela, our leading lady, basically does something daft and puts her foot in it, her sidekicks are her New York and English besties (Jenny and Louisa respectively), and Alex is as always the voice of reason and a total swoon worthy leading man. There are all manner of great supporting characters too; including villainous assistants and bonkers parents.

This is just such a fun read and will make you feel all Christmassy and warm inside.

When I read this book I remember hoping that Lindsey would write another book in the series because even though the ending was entirely satisfactory it definitely left room for future stories about Angela…. AND I AM DELIGHTED TO SAY THAT LINDSEY WROTE TWO MORE NOVELS IN THIS SERIES… #7 I Heart Forever and #8 I Heart Hawaii.

As a side note, when I read this it was actually the first time that I ever listened to an audiobook of a novel and it greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the story. The narrator was named Cassandra Harwood and she really did a great job at bringing all the characters to life… subsequently I have yet to find an audiobook I enjoyed as much as this one!

Four and a half Christmassy stars rounded up to five because ’tis the season!
