Blurb from Goodreads
A powerful and epic debut novel about fate and the timelessness of first love.
Katherine and Matthew are destined to be born again and again. Each time their presence changes history for the better, and each time, they fall hopelessly in love, only to be tragically separated.
How many times can you lose the person you love?
For Matthew and Katherine it is again and again, over and over, century after century. But why do they keep coming back? How many times must they die to save the world? What else must they achieve before they can be left to live and love in peace?
Maybe the next together will be different…
I have no clue how to review this book!
It’s a mash-up of so many different genres that shouldn’t work… But yet it really really REALLY works!!!!
This book grabs you from page one and sucks you right into this elaborate web of time lines and two characters, Katherine and Matthew, and how these characters keep meeting and falling in love throughout history…
It’s a bit of a head f*^k but SUCH A GOOD HEAD F*^K!!!!!
This book is part historical fiction (featuring stories regarding the Jacobites, the Crimean war), part pseudo-contemporary STEM-led fiction (featuring bacteriological research and an altered version of geopolitics), part futuristic (featuring university students and casual diversity… I love how this book just normalises diversity) and part time-travel…
How can it be all these things and still be awesome????
BUT IT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!
This was the second book that I had read by Lauren James having read The Loneliest Girl in the Universe the previous year and had a blast reading it.
This book is even more fun.
Because as a reader I was constantly trying to decipher what was actually happening. Trying to see if I could weave the threads of this story together before the author played her hand…
And I didn’t.
Still probably haven’t really because this has a sequel that MUST be read so although I think I understand the book…. I probably don’t…
Honestly I’m not making much sense because *spoilers* so just read this damned book!!! If you like fast paced YA reads, great storytelling, witty banter and characters that you can’t help but root for then this book is for you.
Great fun. Can’t wait to get stuck into the sequel.
