So April happened…
WHAT A MONTH!!!
An entire month in which I did not step foot outside my front door and saw no one other than the supermarket delivery man… YAY SELF ISOLATING ALONE!!!!

So you’d think I would read as many books as I read in March because I had nothing better to do…
Apparently not!
In March I read twenty books, in April that was down to twelve. I feel like I read A LOT of average style books this month which kinda sucks.

But then…..
I READ MEXICAN GOTHIC AND IT IS THE MOST AMAZING BOOK AND I LOVE IT WITH EVERY FIBRE OF MY COLD DEAD SOUL!!!!!

Just imagine the most perfect blend of creepy with compelling yet delicate writing, fantastic characters and a story that will keep you hooked (and hoodwinked) until the very end. I have read fifty-seven books so far in 2020.
MEXICAN GOTHIC IS WITHOUT A DOUBT MY FAVOURITE OF ALL OF THEM
Now is the time when I would be linking my review of it but….
….errr….
…#awkward….
I’m on the Quercus/Jo Fletcher blog tour for it in June so my review has to wait. Sorry guys!
I was super excited when they emailed me and asked me to be a part of the blog tour. I don’t really do blog tours all that much… I’ve done one so far and that was a case of filling in for someone who pulled out at the last minute so this really feels like my first official blog tour… is it weird to get excited over publisher-organised blog tours????
So yes, Mexican Gothic is AMAZING and y’all need to add it to your Goodreads shelves and get reading it once it comes out later this summer.
As for other books I read this month…
My second favourite book I read this month was It Sounded Better in My Head by Nina Kenwood
OMG THIS BOOK JUST MADE ME FEEL ALL THE FEELS AND I CANNOT COHERENTLY EVEN BEGIN TO EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVED IT AND YOU ALL SHOULD JUST READ IT NOW!!!!!!

I did really enjoy my eARC of Sara Barnard’s Destination Anywhere, I awarded it four and a half stars at the time of reading …
But then you guys…. there was twitter drama and she got involved in a discussion she should not have and was defending an author who was not respectful of diversity (and then joked about it!!!) and I feel all muddled up inside. You see I love Sara Barnard’s books, and I mean LOVE, but it doesn’t feel great supporting an author who defends blatantly racist attitudes …. so I’m feeling very downbeat about that. I just can’t see myself reading her books in the future because it feels like I would be supporting her harmful viewpoints. It’s just sad when you realise that an author you loved isn’t as tolerant of others as she should be.

Award for my most hated book of the month goes to Love at First Like by Hannah Orenstein… WHAT A HOT MESS!! This book promised me fake dating (which I love) but instead gave me deceitful dating because both people involved in the relationship were not on equal footing as only one of them knew it was fake dating!!!! Ugh just no…

The following is a list of all the books I read during April in chronological order of when I read them (if you click the book title you will be taken to my full review discussing that book):
- Pretending by Holly Bourne (three stars)
- Love in the Blitz by Eileen Alexander (three stars)
- The Start of Us by Hannah Emery (three and a half to four stars)
- The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren (three and a half to four stars)
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (three and a half stars)
- Destination Anywhere by Sara Barnard (four and a half stars)
- It Sounded Better in My Head by Nina Kenwood (five stars)
- Set My Heart to Five by Simon Stephenson (two stars)
- Swipe Right by Stephie Chapman (four stars)
- How to Save a Life by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke (four stars)
- Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (five stars, review to come later)
- Love at First Like by Hannah Orenstein (one star)
According to Goodreads my current average rating is a pretty positive 3.4 and I have read 20,093 pages across fifty-seven books… but I know some page counts are missing because they are eARCs with unknown page numbers.
That’s it for another monthly wrap up! How many books did you get through in April? Let’s chat in the comments below!

Hearing (reading) you talk about Mexican Gothic makes me really REALLY want to pick it up! 😀 Even though you read fewer books than in March, I feel like it was definitely a good month anyway, especially because you discovered the new favorite! 🙂
