Behind the Blogger Tag

Hi guys!

I saw this particular tag on Lauren’s blog a few months ago and thought it would be a fun one to do!

THE RULES:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer all the questions down below
  • Pingback to the creator: Ellyn @Allonsythornraxx
  • Nominate 5+ bloggers you’d like to know more about to do this tag

THE QUESTIONS:

1. WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING AND WHY HAVE YOU KEPT BLOGGING?

I started blogging last summer so I could have an additional outlet to discuss books. I have been a long time reviewer of books on Goodreads but I just wanted to be able to talk about books in more ways than how Goodreads allows. I also wanted to be more appealing to NetGalley so I could get a few more ARCs than I had been.

I have kept blogging for those same reasons BUT what I did not realise before I started blogging is how many friends I would make and what a brilliantly welcoming community the book blogging community is. And really all of you guys are the reason that I stay! If blogging had not proved to be so enjoyable I am not sure I would have kept it up.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TYPE OF BLOG POST TO WRITE?

I’m still a book reviewer at heart. So that is why on my blog you will see book reviews more than anything else but I do love to take part in memes and discussions. Basically I really enjoy writing every type of blog post that is related to books!

3. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVOURITE BLOG POSTS?

Oh that’s a tough one.

I think first up it’s got to be my post about illness representation in fiction. As I am a #spoonie (person with chronic illness) it is very important to me to see authentic rep of chronic illness and disability in books.

I also really like my thought piece on reading challenges and why it is that they may not suit everyone.

And I am also very fond of my discussion piece about my relationship with star ratings of books over the years.

So it’s funny right? Even though writing reviews are typically my favourite to draft, my absolute favourite posts are all discussion based pieces! This to me further reiterates that creating my book blog was something I really needed to do.

4. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO TO RELAX?

Listening to music. When I find myself over tired or too stressed I always turn to my favourite songs. My favourite musicians tend to be singer songwriter types these days so most of my CDs (yes I still use CDs lol!) are all rather easy to listen to. I believe they are termed adult contemporary genre wise.

My favourite musicians are John Mayer, Joshua Radin, Rhodes, Alexi Murdoch, Sara Bareilles, Sam Smith.

5. WHAT ARE THREE OF YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS?

Outside of my family, friends and dog?

  • Paperback Books
  • Hardback Books
  • eBooks

6. WHAT ARE YOUR PROUDEST BLOGGING MOMENTS?

I think when I hit 200 followers that was really a high point. I felt like I had really been accepted as part of the blogging community and it was deeply emotional for me. I have now surpassed 1,000 followers and that number is just impossibly mind-boggling!

7. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF BLOGGING?

  • Reading
  • Watching tennis
  • Tending to my orchids
  • Baking
  • Sewing
  • Knitting

8. DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY IN THREE WORDS

  • Loyal
  • Honest
  • Playful

9. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE PET PEEVES?

  • Dishonesty in people
  • Messy, cluttered spaces
  • The smell of coffee in the morning

10. WHAT’S SOMETHING YOUR FOLLOWERS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

That I’m kinda short!!! Just five feet one-ish but full of sass!

And that is it for this tag! If you would like to do this for yourself then consider yourself tagged and please pingback to this post so I can read and compare your answers.

  1. Yay I’m not the only person who still buys CDs 😂 I do listen to Spotify when I’m baking or if I’m making a puzzle downstairs (upstairs I watch Charmed) but I love my CDs and can’t really wrap my head around the idea of not continuing to buy them.
And you’re blog origin story is better than mine. I made one because I came up with a list of anticipated reads for 2019 then realized Goodreads didn’t actually have a blog feature 🙈 joining to share reviews and increase your chance of arcs is much more sensible

  2. This was so fun to read and I loved getting to know you more ! I agree I didn’t expect to make so many blogging friends when I started but the book community is so friendly and lovely so it has been a great experience !! Also I definitely feel like book blogs are a great place to have discussions and you can’t really have them anywhere else.
You don’t like the smell of coffee in the morning, interesting. I love coffee but I never have one in the morning. Probably because I don’t have enough time to drink it haha !!

          1. Hey, they do make some nice flat shoes though! But I know I would miss my heels too. That’s rough though, I’m sorry to hear that you got arthritis in both your hip and knees, geez! You should just put them on while you sit and admire the beauty of your shoes!

  4. I loved reading this and it was great to get to know you a bit! I love your music choices. Also, I’m 5″11 and when I was younger I used to really want to be 5″1. I don’t know if that makes me really weird but I’m still kinda jealous.

    1. I think we naturally always want to be something other than what we are. A grass is always greener on the other side sort of way of thinking I guess. I have always wanted to be tall! Never been thrilled about being this short lol 🙈😂 Especially because I can’t reach the highest shelf on my bookcases without standing on a chair or something…and I’m much too awkward to be balancing on chairs 😂😂😂😂
And thank you so much. It was such fun writing this tag ☺️☺️💖💙❤️

  5. The smell of coffee in the morning is the only thing preventing me from going in to hibernation right now 😛 It’s been a considerably cold start to winter Down Under and getting out of bed has been a CHORE. This is such a fun post though, it’s great to get to know each other aside from bookish things in common. Like: I’m also shortish at 5’2, I love baking and spent a few years decorating cakes for weddings etc and I love doing crochet while binge watching re-runs of comedy shows. What’s your fav thing to bake? 😀

    1. Ugh no… coffee is almost as disgusting as broccoli 😂😂😂 I used to live with someone that obsessively made it every morning and omg I couldn’t cope with the smell. It also bothers me in coffee shops. I just find it far too pungent and nope… makes me super nauseated!
I miss the cold. Must’ve been about 20 degrees C here today; I know, that’s not exactly hot by Australia terms but I hated it. I am not built for temperatures over about 17 degrees C. I like spring, autumn and winter. Summer can suck it.
I’m a lazy baker (but also have limited energy due to being chronically ill) so I make a lot of quick things like muffins and scones…basically things I can bake with minimal fuss, then freeze and defrost as required. I do like to bake savoury things too. I make this yummy cheese and tomato pocket out of a modified scone dough because I couldn’t be dealing with making pastry or a yeasted dough…see lazy! If there’s a corner to be cut then I’m your girl 😂😂 And obvs being Irish I do make both brown and white soda bread; sometimes I like to add cheese and mustard to the mix…another example of me being not exactly the most purist of bakers 😂😂 But that’s so cool that you decorate cakes! I have absolutely no artistic skill so have never decorated a cake in my life apart from dusting it in either cocoa powder or icing sugar 😂😂😂
