Goodreads Monday (17/08/2020)

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow, to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it!

This week’s book:

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

The year is 1926, and Shanghai hums to the tune of debauchery.

A blood feud between two gangs runs the streets red, leaving the city helpless in the grip of chaos. At the heart of it all is eighteen-year-old Juliette Cai, a former flapper who has returned to assume her role as the proud heir of the Scarlet Gang—a network of criminals far above the law. Their only rivals in power are the White Flowers, who have fought the Scarlets for generations. And behind every move is their heir, Roma Montagov, Juliette’s first love…and first betrayal.

But when gangsters on both sides show signs of instability culminating in clawing their own throats out, the people start to whisper. Of a contagion, a madness. Of a monster in the shadows. As the deaths stack up, Juliette and Roma must set their guns—and grudges—aside and work together, for if they can’t stop this mayhem, then there will be no city left for either to rule.

Why I Want to Read This

This is inspired by Romeo and Juliet. All I needed to hear to add it to my TBR! Plus I am OBSESSED with the cover.

And omg there was SUCH a frenzy on Twitter on Friday when this was added to NetGalley UK.

So, like many others, I requested it…

Shooketh I am! Cannot wait to get stuck into this one.

Is it on your TBR? Have you got an ARC too?

Let’s chat in the comments below!

  1. Ah! I was just eyeing this book on Goodreads the other day. I had to be very strong and NOT request it on NetGalley as I won’t have much time to read in October and November.
Congratulations on the approval! and I hope you’ll love it ❤

      1. You can do it! 😀 I purposefully requested only the ones I was THE MOST excited about, as I should have my exams in the end of this year, and will need to study. But when I have netgalley Arcs studying becomes very difficult… Lol
        I have 8 atm (4 still from last year…oops)

  2. Hi Emer. There’s one book on my TBR list that keeps calling to me even though I’m trying to put it off for a while. It’s the second volume of A Song of Ice and Fire. It’s on the shelf behind me here. It’s not that long since I finished the first volume and I don’t want to get tired of it – the volumes are so big. I’m ready to give in though . . . I haven’t heard of Chloe Gong but the book sounds good.

    1. Oof I’ve not read any of the GoT books …that is a game of thrones book isn’t it? I’ve not watched the show either. Too much violence and nudity for my taste. I made it through about ten minutes of the very first episode and quickly changed channel 😂
Chloe Gong is a debut author. I think she might still be doing her undergraduate degree… puts us all to shame! ☺️☺️
