Last weekend I announced a week’s hiatus from blogging and it’s been exactly what I needed! I’m still pretty unwell physically but mentally it’s been so relieving to not have the stress of drafting blog posts and feeling a burden of blog hopping.
I know this is all a perceived burden and that I’m responsible for placing it on my own shoulders, so it was difficult to admit that I was suffering from blogger burnout.
I still love blogging, don’t get me wrong.
But because my chronic illness has been so unrelentingly draining in recent months the reserve of energy that I was using for my blogging just wasn’t there. And it made me resent blogging a little! Much in the same way that my number of outstanding ARCs to be read was making me resent reading. I was feeling like reading, reviewing and blogging was more like a chore.
But this week you guys….
I’ve actually been in a lot of pain physically from my chronic illness. And I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety related to that… but there’s still a release I feel.
I needed this blogging break.
It’s helped me to find the time to read more which means I now have only four more ARCs to read until my NetGalley review ratio is back to 100%.
And technically I could leave those four ARCs for many weeks as each book isn’t released until February next year at the earliest… but I want to clear my NetGalley shelf. I want to feel like I can read without ARCs hanging over my head…. Also I have some pending ARC requests (six in total, some that have been there for months!) and I’m afraid if I get granted any of those I’ll feel overwhelmed again. So it’s best to clear my NetGalley shelf so I won’t feel anxious if I do get any of those ARCs.
I know… it’s a strange one. On one hand I love reading ARCs because HELLO FREE BOOKS! But I’m a mood reader. I don’t like reading to a scheduled TBR and I’ve had to do that A LOT this year because I’ve had such a glut of ARCs.
So moral of the story is I’m going to limit myself to my NetGalley requests in the future. I need to show more restraint around the free books! And instead use my time to read all of the gorgeous unread books that are sitting on my bookshelves.
I’m going to take another week away from blogging so apologies in advance for my absence and not being there to read your blogs this week.
But I need this time. It’s recharging my batteries and come November 1st I will be back with a bang. I’ve even begun to have more ideas about future blog posts and discussions because of this downtime. I’ve not felt this excited about blogging in a loooooong time.
So until I’m back on 1st November let me wish you all a happy and safe Halloween.
Take care my friends. I miss you all and can’t wait to catch up with you next month.
